Walls Community Garden Lauded as Outstanding New Service Initiative
žž’s Community Engaged Learning Initiative selected the Walls Community Garden for its Outstanding New Service Initiative award. The garden was selected for the award for understanding the needs of the community and making a positive impact on žž, Walls Elementary School, where the garden is located, and the city of žž.

Early childhood education majors at žž helped create a Cultural Fair for third-graders of žž City Schools. The event, held in the žž Roosevelt gymnasium, included stations and activities for students to learn about different countries and cultures such as learning a traditional Persian dance.

Virtual Reality Research to Benefit Those With Cognitive Impairments
An interdisciplinary team of žž professors has come together to explore the different ways virtual reality (VR) technology can help those with developmental and cognitive impairments. “We found that we are able to blend our expertise together to create a project that will improve the health opportunities for people with cognitive impairments,” said Mary Ann Devine, Ph.D., director for the Disability Studies and Community Inclusion minor/graduate certificate.

A key leader in the community and a key player in economic development, žž at Tuscarawas received the Large Business of the Year award from the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce. “We have been involved heavily this year in the community and I think a lot of good stories have come out about the campus either in traditional or social media,” said Brad Bielski, Ph.D., dean and chief administrative officer of žž State Tuscarawas.

Wick Poetry Center Director David Hassler was featured on 90.3 WCPN ideastream for his creative efforts in organizing the River Stanzas Project. The project pays tribute to the 50 year anniversary of the environmental protections and improvements that have taken place since the Cuyahoga River Burning in 1969.
