Consequently, you are invited to learn more about the available smoking cessation programs and resources at an event on Nov. 17, the date of the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout event. žžÀ² State Researchers Reveal How Loss of South African Grasslands to Shrubs Could Affect the Soil and Atmosphere

In their new paper, žžÀ² State Biology Professor David Ward and colleagues asked whether the encroachment of woody shrubs into grasslands in South Africa would increase or decrease the amount of carbon stored in the soil under the plants.

Ecosystems in today's world are responding to a wide variety of environmental changes. What happens when these changes interact? That was the topic of a recent paper published by David Ward, Ph.D., the Art and Margaret Herrick Endowed Professor of Plant Biology in žžÀ²'s Department of Biological Sciences, and international colleagues and graduate students in the journal Scientific Reports.

žžÀ² State Receives State Historic Preservation Award for Preserving May 4 History and Site

The events of May 4, 1970, placed žžÀ² in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, žžÀ² State remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
